Brenyanna and Christopher are a young couple with two young children (ages 5 and 7). Christopher works, but recently his hours were cut significantly, causing them to struggle financially. They were able to save half of what they needed for rent this month. We were able to pay the other half for them.

Mike Stout’s small group spent Friday evening in Griffin cooking and serving approximately 27 homeless men, women, and children staying at the House of Hope homeless shelter. The House of Hope is a Salvation Army homeless shelter that provides emergency housing for men, women, and families. They are open 7 days/wk from 4:30pm-8:00am, and serve breakfast and dinner.

This is a great opportunity for small groups who want to engage in an important ministry that is relatively close to home. The shelter is always in need of help, particularly with feeding. If this is a ministry that interests you, contact the Missions Coordinator for more information.

Several of our college and high school students returned today from a week-long Team Casas build in Juarez, Mexico.

Team Casas is different from a normal church trip in that the team is comprised of individuals from across the country that work on a small house together. Our group partnered with friends from school and previous trips to build a small house for a family in need.

Please continue to pray for Mexico and the Casas por Cristo staff. They are hard workers who are faithfully serving in one of the most poverty stricken areas on our continent.

Thanks to everyone who helped make our Toys-for-Tots event at Marnelle Mobile Home Park a great success. It was a fun-filled, but busy week…from picking out gifts at the warehouse, to the wrapping party where we wrapped approximately 800 presents, to the gift distribution event at Marnelle where we handed out hot chocolate and cookies to the parents and kids who showed up to get their presents from Santa.

A special thanks to our friends and partners at Grace Evangelical Church who coordinated the event, and hosted us at the wrapping party.

Merry-Christmas-Card

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the several gift collection/adopt-a-family events we had going on this month. In addition to taking care of some of our church families, we also helped spread some Christmas cheer to several needy families in the local area.

The Youth Group sponsored a young mother and her 3 young boys referred to us by the Pregnancy Resource Center. They collected and wrapped a storage bin full of presents at their annual Progressive Dinner.

One of our families “adopted” a single mother and her teenage daughter referred to us by the Promise Place, purchasing several Christmas gifts for each of them. Another church family provided financial assistance to a struggling family referred to us by the Real Life Center.

Thank you to everyone for your generosity.

Kenneth and Samantha needed help with rent. They lost everything in a house fire last year, including 2 of their 7 children. Since then Kenneth has lost his job, and a portion of Samantha’s pay is being garnished to pay for expenses from the fire. They are now significantly behind in rent, but the landlord is working with them the best he can. We paid a month of their rent, and sent them a gift card to pay for some of their other needs.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our collection of groceries in support of Fayette Samaritans. We collected approximately 15 bags of groceries and diapers, which will be delivered this week. Fayette Samaritans continues to do their best to keep up with the need for groceries as area residents continue to cope with economic conditions. Our donation is helping them to meet that need.

Kim and her husband were in desperate need of assistance. He is a disabled veteran who suffered a severe brain injury when his vehicle was hit with an IED. He now suffers from severe migraines and PTSD that make it difficult for him to function. Kim was recently laid off when her company was downsized, and has been unable to find another full-time job. She was able to find a part-time job working from home, but that job is also in jeopardy as their phone and internet service have been turned off. They were facing eviction, as well as the termination of their water and electric service if payments were not made immediately. The Real Life Center and the United Way were able to pay their rent and phone service; we were able to pay off their utility bills.
