RHBC partnered with Crossroads Community Church and County Line Methodist Church on Friday evening to provide a Christmas dinner to the homeless of Griffin. Dinner was served on the street, at the House of Hope homeless shelter, and A Higher Calling transitional housing facility. Clothing and toiletry items were also handed out. The RHBC team consisted of Marilyn, Julie, and Pete. A total of approximately 150 men, women, and children were served in the effort.
Thanks to everyone who helped make our Toys-for-Tots event at Marnelle Mobile Home Park a great success. It was a fun-filled, but busy week…from picking out gifts at the warehouse, to the wrapping party where we wrapped approximately 500 presents, to the gift distribution event at Marnelle where we handed out hot chocolate and cookies to the parents and kids who showed up to get their presents from Santa.
A special thanks to our friends and partners at Grace Evangelical Church who coordinated the event, and hosted us at the wrapping party.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to our collection in support of the Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief efforts in the Philippines following Typhoon Haiyan. The deadly super typhoon was one of the most powerful ever recorded and leveled tens of thousands of homes. At least 580,000 people have were displaced.
As a church we donated $1,000 to the relief effort.
Mike Stout’s small group spent Friday evening in Griffin cooking for and serving 15 homeless men and women staying at the House of Hope homeless shelter. They also helped serve approximately 10 other men and women who were on the street. The House of Hope is a Salvation Army homeless shelter that provides emergency housing for men, women, and families. They are open 7 days/wk from 4:30pm-8:00am, and serve breakfast and dinner.
This is a great opportunity for small groups who want to engage in an important ministry that is relatively close to home. The shelter is always in need of help, particularly with feeding. If this is a ministry that interests you, contact the Missions Coordinator for more information.
Thanks to everyone who came out to assist Grace Evangelical Church and the Real Life Center today in conducting a Mobile Food Pantry on the grounds of Grace Evangelical. Volunteers packed and distributed bags of grocery items provided by the Atlanta Food Bank. Approximately 185 needy Fayette County families were served.
M lives alone and has no family in the area. She normally works at a local hospital, but was recently diagnosed with stage II colon cancer. She worked as long as she could, but now cannot due to the chemotherapy. As a result she was not going to be able to pay the full amount of her December rent. We were blessed to take care of the balance of her rent for her.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to our collection of groceries in support of Fayette Samaritans. We collected approximately 25-30 bags of groceries and supplies, which will be delivered this week. Fayette Samaritans continues to do their best to keep up with the need for groceries as area residents continue to cope with economic conditions. Our donation is helping them to meet that need.
V is a single Mom. Her and her 3 yr old daughter live with her mother and her 3 school-aged siblings. The father is not in the picture and she does not receive child support. V’s mother is the only currently working, but she doesn’t make enough to sustain the whole family. V was working until she recently lost her job, which has put them behind on their rent. She is diligently looking for another job. We were blessed to partner with the Real Life Center to take care of her rent for her.
